Woke up Saturday morning and decided to head to the Uwharries. I threw the essentials in my Kelty daypack and filled the KLR full of gas. I needed a day of just two of my favorite things; my KLR 650 and my Hammock!
I arrived in Uwharrie about 2:30 on Saturday. Had the bike all packed up but decided to ride some trails instead of setting up camp immediately. I rode for about 1.5 hours until it started pouring rain! I got drenched! I found some old trail near the Cotton Place OHV trailhead and just hauled a$$ up it for a bit until I found a secluded spot. Looked like no one had been up this trail for awhile.
It was still raining when I found my site and had to quickly throw up my tarp and wait for it to subside so I could setup my real camp. I went ahead and cooked lunch under the tarp because it wasn't just a passing shower. It did finally slow down enough for me to setup my camp properly. As I sat around listening to the frogs, I noticed that my front tire was extremely low! I thought I had punctured it on the trail. Apparently, it was low the whole time since I had enough to ride back out the a store to fill it up and it didn't leak back down overnight. Whew! That was dumb of me not to check it before hand.
I dont know what the heck that is under my lip! Looks like a piercing kinda!
Ate dinner, got into dry clothes, climbed into the hammock about 8 pm. It was really raining hard when I decided to lay down. It was very nice. There is nothing like the feeling of getting into dry clothes after being soaked, and climbing into a warm dry hammock while it pours. I watched 2 movies on the ipod and finally nodded out about 12 am. The rain stopped about 12, but the sound of it dripping from the trees all night and hitting the tarp was just as soothing.
I Slept great. Woke up Sunday morning about 8 am to a beautiful blue Carolina sky and a deer about 60 feet from hammock. I ate a bite of breakfast and took my time packing up camp because I did not want it to end. This trip ended perfectly with the hour ride home through the Uwharries in perfect weather. What a trip.
I tried to put the images above with the correct parts of the report.
