Rip stop nylon from Walmart ?

I bought my fabric from Joanns fabric. For 7.99 a yard. Did use a coupon. Finally found some at Walmart for 1.50 like I have read about in so many threads. Is there a quality difference? It does look slightly different, the honeycomb pattern is not as pronounced.

Was going to build another hammock for a friend that is a ground dweller that doesn't sleep very well anymore.

    Good find and score.

I couldn't tell you about Joann's quality and similarities to Walmart's, but, I have used my Walmart ripstop for more than 4 years on the same hammock.

Have fun with your $6 hammock. Mine is still wonderful.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

I get the $1.50 Walmart finds but why pay 7.99 at a fabric store when ripstopbytheroll has it for 3.85? Even with shipping on 4 yards you are only at just over 5.

i can never find this magical ripstop at walmart, I asked the lady at the counter and she looked at me like I was from mars. The joanne ripstop is a little expensive but the real issue is joanne's long lines and waiting for grandma to return the 150 buttons she bought and didn't use LOL.

I went to two Walmarts and got the same reaction. Like I'm from Mars, lol. Long awkward pause like I just asked her if they stock Plutonium or something. Anyways, this magical cheap ripstop continues to escape me. I would love to get a few yards to make by daughter and nephew a hammock for camping in the next couple weeks. They had poly 8x10 poly tarps for like 7 bucks too.

9/10 times they will not even know what ripstop is; I don't expect them to. You'll have to learn to identify the synthetic fabrics form the cotton-poly/cotton-nylon blends.

Yeah, I still looked through everything at both locations.

I'm not a sewing guru or anything so educate me on this. What size of material do they sell all the fabrics in? I mean width wise? I see materials sold by the yard but is it usually 2 yards wide or 1 yard wide, etc? Do they just charge you for the exact pieces you want or do you pay for the smaller pieces off the yard they had to cut?

Take a tape measure with you- also remember that sometimes the material is folded in half on the bolt. the material is sold by the running yard (or 1/2 yard for some of the expensive stuff- cuben fiber comes to mind). you pay for what you get- ie;the price is per running yd. of material but if you want a foot of material it would be 1/3 of the per yd. price.

edit: most material is 58"- 60" wide, but some is 54" and 72"(rare to see at WW)- take something to measure with or just use the scale that is in the fabric cutting table.

Finding ripstop or similar fabric at wallyworld is a hit and mostly miss deal. The local wally world has not had any in several years
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
