Hi just trying to find people near me like minded.
Welcome from SC! If you like the woods and hammocks, you will find many like minded people here. :-) When I attended my first group hang, it was life-changing. I found my people! I haven't looked back. There are hangers all over. Hopefully, you can find some local to you.

welcome from Lawrenceburg, KY. I work in Frankfort. This site is the greatest.
Welcome from Huntington, WV! You're only a couple hours from me. There are a few group hangs at the Red River Gorge every year you should keep an eye out for! The next one is planned for June but others pop up from time to time.
Welcome from Louisville, ky!! Check out the outing forum here. I know there is a scheduled hang @ red river gorge in June. Amazing people!
Halo from Lexington. Welcome!

Frankfort here. Been on this site for about 6 years and have had the pleasure of seeing it flourish with new converts and a lot of innovative ideas.
Steepest learning curve will be finding your perfect set-up without spending a lot of money chasing the next, new product to roll out. There's so much cool stuff and ideas being shared on here, it can consume a lot of your free time. Don't get me wrong, this is the absolute best online community I have ever been a part of and the people I have met as a result have been top notch. Without having discovered the joys of hammocking, I was half tempted to walk away from multi-day backpacking due to the misery of sleeping on the ground.
FWIW, my advice is once you think you've found your groove, step away from the keyboard for a while and focus on how your set-up is affecting your experience. I knew I was spending way too much time, money and peace fiddling around with all the emerging trends when my outings started focusing more on gear evaluations and technique than the beauty of the environs around me. I dropped off the forum for a couple years to refocus my zen and get back to the draw of the woods.
Bottom line is that this a great community that will help you go from ground dwelling zero to hammock hero in no time. Good luck, welcome to the forum and always HYOH!
