Here's an article about making time to do some camping when you don't have much time to spare. It's written regarding bicycle camping, but it really could apply to backpacking or car camping, too. I thought some of you might enjoy reading it and maybe applying the info to your own tight schedule.

To summarize, the Sub-24 hour Overnight is a quick camping trip that should take less than 24 hours, door to door. The problem with longer trips, even weekend trips, can be the planning and logistics. Too much thinking about it, schedules don't mesh, time away from family, etc.
Since you're close to home it doesn't matter if you aren't 100% prepared because you'll be home in the morning. Forget your food bag? You'll be hungry, but you'll survive till you get home. Forget your flashlight? Oh well, it'll be dark. It will be a quick test of you and your equipment.
This idea has been making the rounds on the bicycle touring websites for a couple of years now. A lot of people are discovering they don't need to plan a big vacation just to get some time in the woods. It can be as convenient as throwing your stuff in a backpack and heading to the closest place to hang your hammock for the night.
