Well, I finally got to test my equipment and see how it performed in colder weather. Over the winter I got a Hammock Gear 20 Incubator and I've been hoping to try it out and see how it works out, since I'm a bit of a cold sleeper.
So it got to 17 degrees. I started with a 40 degree bag and another summer top quilt that I had made, tucked inside. Unfortunately even with a nalgene hot water bottle it was too cold and I started to feel it by 11:00pm.
Switched out for my -20 sleeping bag (man-made materials, not down. Wow, that worked. The bag was thick enough that it provided an extra bit of insulation to supplement the underquilt and I was toasty warm for the rest of the night. Kudos to HG for a great quality underquilt, and I'm looking forward to a great nights sleep tonight, the forecast is 12 degrees Fahrenheit.
