It varies a lot, but a standard fishing boat may be about 2000lbs with the motor, battery, gas, etc. That should translate to about 250lbs on the tounge. This looked like a pretty big guy, but probably within limits of the hitch. I wouldn't want him jumping on mine though!

600lbs is the max"rated" tongue weight for class III 2" receiver. That doesn't take into effect some of the extreme stress caused by cantilevering a person's weight 10' past the hitch.

What you described first is what a hitch is designed to do. I'm thinking about something that wouldn't exactly be the intended use.

That's what I'm worried about except I wouldn't be 10' out probably 2'

A jackstand under the hitch receiver would take care of that

You are a little off. Class 3 hitches are rated to tow between 3,500 to about 16,000 lbs depending on the trailer hitch. Tongue weight is the downward weight the trailer places on the trailer hitch and you want about 10% max tongue weight on the trailer hitch. I spent 18 years selling and helping to install trailer hitches, 5th wheels and goose necks.

Most Dodge Ram factory hitches ( 03 and newer ) are rated for a max tow rating of 10,000 lbs and are part of the frame.

Aftermarket specs are
Weight Carrying (WC): Up to 600/6,000 lbs. (TW/GTW) *
Weight Distributing (WD): Up to 1,000/10,000 lbs. (TW/GTW) *

"That hammock stand is a really cool piece. I love to have it for the shop, but I gotta get it at the right price" [hands up like he's eating an invisible burger]

Sure it's a jeep but..

EDIT: I'm not sure the details of that stand, I found it on Google Search. looks to be 1.75- 2 inch steel tubing with truss support and then hang hammock from one end then tie hammock to roll bar/cage of the Jeep.
lol That's my pic of my first hitch stand. It was 1/8'' x 2'' square tubing. It broke down to 3 pieces. The upright, and 2 horizontal pieces. They had a smaller diameter insert welded on which slid into the next piece and was secured by hitch pins. The angle support was secured with 1/2'' bolts. I never had a problem with it but my brothers (black Jeep) bumper wasnt tight enough and rotated so the braced end touched the ground. We solved the whole support problem by putting drop feet supports in the upright with slotted tubing so it could adjust to differing terrain heights. Disassembled it fit behind the rear rollbars. I threw this together to go tailgating at Notre Dame. It held 350 lbs with no problem (Me, wife, and kid) Version 2 did away with the inserts and had weld on hinges so it folded in a Z formation. I had planned on selling these but 9/11 happened and shortly thereafter metal prices skyrocketed and I couldn't afford R&D.

My wife was pregnant in this pic. My daughter is almost 12 now.
