    Pine Pollen woes

Spring has sprung in North Louisiana. The yellow pine pollen is beginning to cover everything and I reluctantly had to bring my tarp and hammock inside after having it up in the back yard for weeks. Anyone else troubled by this? Do you leave your hammock set up in your yard for prolonged periods?

I definitely wouldn't leave my tarp in the sun; the ultraviolet light will wreck it.

I made the mistake of leaving a set of tree huggers out on my hammock stand and then taking them on a backpacking trip... UV damage caused them to just snap in half the first night. I ended up at Walmart looking for some tow straps to be able to complete the hike.

Always annoying. It makes the woods ugly.
On a related note, I learned last year you can eat the catkins but I was too late to go try them.
I need to get out there post haste so I don't miss them this year.

I can't imagine that being good for a tarp ever, but I have left my polypro straps out for weeks at a time. They aren't in direct sunlight since the hammocks not between them but they haven't degraded too terribly.

I have feared the UV damage, but my yard is pretty dense with tree cover and I had a blue vinyl tarp suspended over the most exposed area (though not completely covering the tarp). It has been so nice to have the tarp/hammock already set up so that when I get a free moment, I could just run out and plop in the hammock and read a few chapters in my E reader before dozing off.

It's just starting here in NC. Couple of weeks and everything will be covered with it.

Pardon my ignorance but what are catkins?

The pine pollen was starting two wks ago but then got shut off with the cold temps that came in last week. I suspect it'll be back this week with 70's returning.

I could smell the pine pollen starting a few weeks ago when it started to warm up after a rain. Joy! Kombucha and milk kefir here I come! It's made the pollen much more tolerable from an allergy sinusy perspective.
