Question What Rain Tarp To Get?

Hello! I have the ENO doublenest. I will be camping/backpacking in Brevard, NC in July. If you have ever been there, you know it's a temperate rainforest and rains very frequently. Usually it's short bursts of strong rain, but it can last all day. I need a tarp that can last me from the slightest drizzle to the strongest side-blown wind you can imagine. I would prefer to get one of the ENO tarps, but I am open minded. Thank you so much in advance

EDIT: Weight is not too much of a problem, as the longest length will probably be around 10 miles in a few days, though a lighter tarp would be nice, i'd prefer something that wont get me soaked.

Welcome aboard madelinea! Warbonnet Superfly! Plenty roomy - good coverage - and a fine value.

Don't know what weeks in July you will be there but check out the thread: WNC > The 6th Annual John Rock Hang 7/17-7/19

Based on your requirements, I'd say the Superfly also. There's nothing in the ENO line of tarps that meets your requirements; they're a lousy value, and they weigh too much.

If you're looking for something cheaper, the HH Hex is a pretty good value with good coverage. I personally like doors, which is why I recommend the Superfly or similarly dimensioned tarp in silnylon.

A cuben tarp is lightest and best if you can afford it.

Since the tarp is the most important piece of equipment it might be worth the extra expense.

I have two DIY cuben tarps and they are great.

Silpoly ones will appear soon, I predict. They do not stretch as the silnyon ones do.

First choice Superfly to be very strong, light, and cover everything you need covered.
Second choice: Kelty Noah 12. Less than half the price of the superfly, roughly double the weight (+/-), but absolutely bomb-proof. My Kelty Noah 12 can enclose my Clark Vertex 2-person hammock and still close the ends if that gives you an idea. (well, almost at the front since it has two ropes coming out from the head).

Super Fly is a great tarp. That was my first tarp.
But, after I saw a WL Oldman Winter I sold my SF and purchased a OMW and I am so happy with their quality that when I wanted a smaller tarp for summer I went with, the now legendary, Tad Pole .
Now that my wife has begun to hammock with me, I picked up a 11' Bullfrog to use as a communal tarp.
I have to say that no one is better at tarps than WL.

Like others have mentioned. The Superfly by Warbonnet is a great tarp. I would also check out the Winter Dream tarp by Underground Quilts. You can customize that one just a little but more if that is something you like to do.

Since I am transitioning from Tent/Shelter camping, and into hammock camping, I just reused the tart I already had: Snugpak All Weather Shelter

It works great, and if I have to go to ground, it is really easy to set it up multiple ways to make a shelter, or using the snaps on it, a bivy. When I get around to making my own 4 season tarp, I am going to copy several of the attributes of this tarp and integrate them.

Some great suggestions here. I have been VERY impressed with the Superfly. The pole mod really opens it up well.

Since you are in NC, I say give the WL tarps a hard look. Great stuff and cant beat supporting local economy. Win win.

My WL Big Daddy tarp worked flawless my first time in the Pisgah National Forest and it rained hard. My Superfly and Cloudburst have been in the rain a few times and have done a great job as well.
    Straight out of Clayton.

Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.

I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.
