What do you use in treeless sites?

I camp in a few sites regularly that do not have 2 good trees at the right distance. What are some options for single tree hanging or no tree hanging? I have seen the Handy Hammock but can't afford the $165.
    Any suggestions?

I have been thinking about making a piece to go in the 2" receiver of my truck (someone else on here recently asked about it and it got me thinking). Something that would fit in the bed and then provide a tie-off point for a tarp and hammock.

You can make your own stand - there are several threads for this. I'd suggest following this thread: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...urtleDog-stand

I have seen these too, but I was thinking more for backpacking. Light weight.

I recently acquired some collapsible carbon fiber hiking poles. I was thinking of trying to rig something like the Handy Hammock using them. Has this been done?

This something that I used to worry about. But these days, I only plan trips around places I know for a fact have plenty of trees
Always last to the camp site.

There are a lot of areas in Utah where I am that have great hiking and camping areas that do not have trees. I want to be able to enjoy these areas but ensure I have a way to hang.

I am looking for ideas or helps with the DIY option. Avoid is not an option and relocate can mean an extra few miles which is not always in the plan.

The end goal is a DIY solution to hang were there are no trees or limited trees and be able to backpack there.

A backpack-able replacement for a tree is going to be tough. Your best bet may be to use a pad with your hammock and carry a ground sheet. Ground sheet + pad + hammock tarp = classic tarp camping.

If bugs are a problem, some people go to ground inside their hammocks: Ground sheet > pad > hammock (suspended from hiking poles just to keep the bug net off your face) > tarp.

I tried this out in the backpack with my Hennessy, Superfly, a Thermarest pad, and two hiking poles, and it worked great.

I've seen this done once, using poles instead the bike, but really can't say how well it worked.
