    Shade/wind tarp attached to ridgeline?

Would this work? I'm sure it's been tried before, it seems like it could provide a super lightweight wind protection or sun shade on leisure hangs. Some of the tieouts could be shock cord so the hammock can still sway - though I'm not sure how much that would compromise the pitch of the "tarp". Maybe it's just easier to pitch to the trees, but thought I'd throw this idea out there to see what you guys think.

Yep, that's the Hennessy tarp system attached to the ridgeline, in a nutshell!

    Nice drawing.

If I understand the drawing correctly, it's only half of a Hennessy diamond tarp - a triangular tarp. I guess it would work, but since there is no attachment point to one side, it will probably move to the other side in strong winds.

it might do actually - however you would have to have tieouts along the ridgeline somewhere that bungee out to the hammock suspension ,
otherwise as you got into the hammock the tarp would go floppy...

you could mock one up with polycro

I don't get this. I have heard it many times though..... A fixed ridgeline actually gets tighter when you get in the hammock, if it is hung properly. Why would the tarp sag? Especially if the tie outs are shock corded?

Fixed ridgelines are fickle creatures- best studied through close observation in the quiet of the woods. It is best to let the ridgeline be itself and not impose behaviors believed to be true, for assumptions of conformability have left many thoughtful hangers without...

I've flipped my diamond tarp over in an attempt to mimic your drawing. Whenb eight is applied to the hammock, the tarp slackens even ever so lightly and the top edge may drop to the point of the hammocker not realizing the protection intended. More effective to elevate the downwind (or shaded side) of the diamond setup, propping it with a tied out stick in my opinion.

I wonder if a few design implementations would fix that, like loops or clips to tension multiple points of the tarp to the ridgeline. I'd like to try and make this sometime, just need to find some cheap fabric first.

countrybois - its very like trailh4x stated - there is a slackening that occurs - not great - and im sure shockcord cold prevent it - but its simmilar to clipping your pack to a normal tarp - it sags.
