    Prusik knot with Zing It

Forgive me if this has been asked, I've not seen an answer during my searches.

Using Zing It for my ridge line I've found that the Prusik knot seems to hold too well or not enough. At first it was a bit slippery so I just kept adding loops one at a time until it held. I think it ended up somewhere sround 5 or 6 loops.

It seems that either the knot is too loose or so tight I can't slide it when I tighten it. Is this just an issue that's inherant to this type of line or am I doing something wrong?

Once the newness is worn off the ridgeline and loop it will grab better with maybe 4 wraps and still be adjustable, its a matter of breaking them in guess and seeing what you can get away with after that.
    Good luck,

4 loops around. Once the line breaks in and the coating wears off a bit 4 will grip great.

I had this problem, and could not get six loops to hold on a new line. I heard that I should cut off the loops of the prusik from the same piece of zing-it that I am trying to attach to. Does anyone know how long it takes for the line to get roughed up enough to hold the prusik?

Like the others have said about the coating. I will ask and not to be insulting, but to make sure. The Zing-it that you made your prussiks with is the smaller diameter than the other zing it? I know someone that made some prussiks out of 2.2 and was trying to put it on the 1.75 and it will not hold. I'm sure it's probably the coating but had to ask to maybe save you some aggravation.

For the most part, depending on what you are using it for, it will only be sliding along a specific area. For example my tarp is a crl under the tarp. I have continuous loops with prusiks to be able to adjust along the rl to center it over the hammock and pull tight across. When I did mine I left the prusik loose and strung up the tarp. I centered the rl and then ran the prusiks along the rl both in and out for maybe 2 feet until they felt hot. Did the same on the other side and never had an issue in field. You can also scrunch the line like you would if you were splicing.

In the end, I am guessing 95% of prusiks are continuous loops. Sorta the nature of the beast.

The bury in continuous loops significantly increases the diameter of the line. If the same material is used for the ridgeline and the loop, it's not going to hold well.

When I do em, I just make em long enough that the bury stops at about half way round, leaving half the loop at standard diameter. Then I make sure the thin half is the bit that gets wrapped.

To be honest though, I always have to make loads of wraps with same diameter line. I've used 1.75 on 2.2mm and it holds fine with 4 wraps, but 1.75 on 1.75 still slips with enough tension even with 6 wraps. Using thinner cord for the loops always produces much better results.
