RT, thank you for checking on this... i just ordered mine a few days ago so i'm glad to hear that the min. can be 50". i've got approx. 53" of rooftop in the area i'd like to prep for a mount.
Now it's a matter of the Clark 250 fitting properly between the tie points when the Vario is in it's min. 50" base config.
going the other way....i ordered the extender for (when mounted on the ground) i might need the longest ridge line possible.
if it's right there handy?? could i get the length of the 2 "foot" pcs.
    thanks again, todd

The foot itself is 2.5" across and the width of the stand is 41 1/4". I believe I have my stand as long and tall as possible and it's 13' 3'' from where the hammock strap attaches on one side to the other. From the floor to where the hammock straps attach is 4'9" tall.

Another Way To Skin This Cat

My Taco has receiver hitches front and rear (Warn makes the front hitch.)

It should be pretty simple to build some uprights that are removable and will support a hammock.

Out of curiosity, how much weight is your roof rack rated for?

Dave, toyota rates my FJ crusier rack at only 160lbs. moving but up to 600LBs standing. it's not your average luggage rack..can attest to the standing part...have used as camera platform with 3 guys aboard and as roof tent camping base on and off since Oct. of 06.
interesting you mention hitches....a plan i'm tinkering with is sailboat like (mast and boom) coming off of Warn front bumper..my rear bumper is homemade and not as hvy. duty as Warn front but could come out of recv. hitch with support as you say....
none of this is very practicle, just fun to play with. i still have remnants of small metal shop i ran for 5 yrs. got the Vario coming to get me started..like my metal fab bus. i can't compete with factory made tubing ,bent, fitted and powder coated
