What about running a static ridgeline 14' long between each of the poles 7' off the ground? It would be an easy way to ensure an equidistant setup and could help strengthen the structure. Tarps can either be thrown over the ridgelines and tied off to the poles or staked out in the usual manner. This doesn't cover the middle of the structure, but if you put a fire in the center then you don't want to have a bunch of nylon hanging right above it anyway.
A free canoe is better than no canoe.
That's a good idea... I've given it some thought, but it's one of those things that have to be tried out.
I'm not sure I want to hang from a tripod that has a fire in the middle. It could be a cooking area, but I don't want to hang my nylon hammock so close to a fire!
Today I found fiberglass poles in 45" sections, for $1 per section. So, for $18 I obtained three poles, each 22'6" long. No good asa travois, but they might work well as a hammock stand. I'll let you know how well soon!

Mac, could you use the top rail of chain link fence? fin used it to build his "arc de fin". Not sure of the strength, but is available in 10-20 foot lengths, check your local pipe supplier or fence place.
Ambulo tua ambulo.
Lodgepole pine. Tradition has to count for something.
And if you pay attention to what kind of wood gets put on it, and how much, a fire should be okay.

I'm not familiar with it, but I'll check it out. Thanks!
Somehow, I missed that... I like it a lot!
I was able to erect the tripod using my 22' fiberglass sectionals... now I'm worried that loading it up will turn it into an Arc DeFaite!
I need to reinforce the joints.
I agree, but... it's hard to find in NC.Originally Posted by oldgringo

I wonder if this could be done with three kayaks?
