    Elephant trunks?

Like many that have gone before me I'm looking for something other than a marlinspike hitch to increase the safety of my hang. Two nights ago I was hanging in low light farting around with my suspension, sat back down and my whoopie slipped off the knot onto the stick toggle, snapped the stick and I crashed to the ground. Ouch. I'm okay.

Dutch buckles are an option for sure. I use some dutchware for my tarp.

I've also heard about elephant trunks, but can't seem to find a place to buy them online... Any help?

    Danke!

FWIW, I knotted some little cord locks out some leftover cordage onto the hammock's loops. Now, I situate the loop above the knot, then I slide the cord-lock up in place. It's working really well and my loops have not slipped.

    Thanks.
For those who use dutch buckles, can they pass through the sewn loop of your webbing?

Nothing wrong with the system at all, just the choice of material.

If you use a piece of metal for the spike it wont happen.

3mm solid titanium round 100mm long if youre worried about weight.

I just "set" the loop end into the webbing and have never had a problem.
Yoy can also do it in the dark by feel

IIRC they can. Haven't fiddled with mine in a while. I'll check later.

I just use some of these extra small Fusion wire gate climbing rated carabiners in my marlin spike hitch. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I figure the security is worth the couple of gram weight penalty.

Just checked with a couple of different straps. One strap was slightly thinner than the other. Both sewn loops went through fine but the elephant trunks seem to be made more for the the strap to go through unfolded.
