    Yet another KAQ question

    I am planning on making a underquilt based on the KAQ design, my hammock is an extra long DIY speer (about 11 inches longer than a standard speer. My question is..........since my hammock is longer, do I just add a foot to the standard KAQ design? If so, do I leave the end width approximatly the same as the origional design? Also, since my speer isnt asym, what about changing the KAQ design to more of a balanaced diamond shape? Any suggestions?

    I have a KAQ but I never made one but I will share my opinion anyhow. I would think that if your hammock is longet you will need to extend your UQ suspension and leave your quilt the same size. That is unless you have a longer body and that is why your hammock is longer. When I sleep in a speer I still sleep on an angle so even though your hammock isn't asym you still are and you still need the UQ to be also.

    I would expect just adding the length would work. You'd just have to compare your tie out points to decide where to add the length.

    This mirrors my experience. I have the KAQ New River, which is a rectangular quilt designed for symmetrical, gathered end hammocks like my Speer. The quilt suspension requires some tweaking to accomodate my diagonal lay. It is a work in progress.

    Interesting.....................so, even though the speer isnt asym, it kind of is when you lay init, and the KAQ will cover the part of the hammock thats being used? Do I have that right? I appreciate the advice-------will the quilt fit right in this configuration?

    As I said, it's a work in progress. I think I can get there, just not yet.

    It's important to understand, there are two KAQ designs.

    ::wheels turning::

    I think I'll try an asym pad in my Claytor.
