    Bugnet question

So I'm looking at one of Dutch's offerings. My only concern is the cinch close vs a zipper. It seems to me that plenty of bugs can get in through this closure. I get that zippers are heavier. But for me, function leads form. The main function is keeping bugs (mosquitoes) off of me.

Is this a common problem with the cinch closures?

If so, can anyone recommend a good zipper closed net that will encompass a 11' hammock.

    Thanks in advance.

I've used cinch closure bug nets exclusively and never had mosquitoes sneak in through the bottom. Mosquitoes aren't particularly clever.

Do you have a single or double layer hammock?

It shouldn't be an issue. Even with the opening in the bottom, your underquilt should protect you from getting bitten from underneath, and when you're in the hammock, the sides of the net seal against the side of the hammock. Add some permethrin to the net and you won't have any skeeters getting to you

Wilderness Logics makes a full bug net with a zipper.
I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.

Single layer hammock, no underquilt many times due to the fact that I love in Texas and is hotter than 1000 suns here much of the year.

Anyone use the extensions for the warbonnet net? How are they? I may just get the 11' Dutch setup. It's got a great price point.

I have an 11' bottom zipper bugnet from Hammeck. I think it was the first one they ever sold. I forget the exact weight, but I think it is around 8-9oz, and is very high quality. I hung in it a few times last summer near a creek and appreciated the extra protection of a fully enclosed system.

Zippers definitely make people feel more secure from bugs. Most hammockers were ground pounders at one time, and a zippered bugnet is all we've ever known. So 75% of folks probably go with a zippered, integrated bugnet because they're not willing to try the bottom-entry bugnet because it looks inadequate.

But it's not - I always got more mosquitoes with zippered, integrated bugnets because they'd just follow me into my hammock. As octothorpesaurus said, mosquitoes aren't particularly clever and for some reason the bottom-entry bugnet just totally flummoxes them. I do treat my bottom-entry bugnets with permethrin, which may also be important. All I know is I've never had any bug in my hammock when using a bottom-entry bugnet.

I've been wondering this as well. So the fronkey style net is a good enough match for skeeters?

Since you have a single layer hammock just be sure whatever style bug net you decide upon provides full coverage for your backside. Mosquitoes will bite through a SL hammock.

Does the permethrin degrade the fabric?
