    Lawson Blue Ridge

Hey everyone, I'm a Newby to Hammocks and could use any suggestions about hanging!
I was cruizin Craigslist a couple weeks ago for a tent and ran across a Lawson Blue Ridge for $50 which I thought was cheaper than a tent. Usually I camp solo so a hammock didn't seem like a bad idea.
The Lawson has a small tarp so I want to find a larger tarp for privacy and more room for cooking and dressing. Any ideas?

Yes they are here in the UK but the price is excellent even with mail cost to the US. There is a choice of either nylon or polycotton

We need to know your style of camping. Are you backpacking, canoeing, or car camping? There are many lightweight, large tarps available. It kinda depends on your weight concerns and budget.

I found your hammock here. IMHO, this hammock looks a little heavy, with a high center of gravity. That's just from my observation. Also, the website says you don't need a sleeping bag, but you would still need to come up with some type of insulation system. Others will chime in with more ideas.

A buddy of mine has a Lawson and he loves it. He's a big man and he loves the spreader poles that open it up like a tent and gives his shoulders lot's of room. I'm not sure what he uses for a tarp. His has something that covers and attaches like a tent fly...I think. Its been a while since I've seen it.

The first hammock I owned was a Lawson Blue Ridge Camping Hammock. I figured that hanging had to be better than sleeping on the ground. The BRCH slept fine but was a little too heavy to hike with and had a bad habit of flipping over whenever something (sleeping bag, etc.) was put in it. I bought a 8x10 silnylon tarp from campmor.com and used it.

Later I purchased a Hennessy Expedition Asym and then a Hennessy Explorer Deluxe. They both were lighter than the BRCH and never flipped. The tarp was used with both. Now I use a Warbonnet Blackbird. I guess that owning four hammocks in the last seven years isn't too bad.

Don't argue with the alligator until after you cross the river.
