I respectfully disagree with Rev on this, but only by half. If the opinion, of our opinionated bunch, is a bad one of the product, then Rev is right on. But, if people like them, and say so, I think that they would be snapped up in a hurry.

It would be a gamble and I think an all or nothing proposition, atleast on this forum. If you had the money to risk you might win big though. What would the weight of the tarps be? What is the color? Is it cat cut? Are the guy lines included and if so how much do they weigh? You may want to take your prototype tarp to some hangs and get the opinions of some of the people there. I would also check out any Claytor Diamond Flys that you come across because at your price point they are your established/main competitor.

Beast... My assessment was for a mass produced tarp. Not one of his own design and manufacture. That's what _I_ assumed he was talking about. I would wholeheartedly agree that another cottage manufacturer could be part of the forum in a heartbeat. Still a bit risky tho even at that. But I got the impression this was a mass produced piece of kit (made in China from the perceived wholesale price(?)) and I think that would be a really hard sell. There would be some who would undoubted buy it but enough to warrant the risk of that level of inventory? I'd worry about that.

By the same token.... a group buy with appropriate information about the product just might make it. If lazyboy wants a fly for cheap and doesn't care about going into business selling tarps then that might be a viable way to do it. A silnyl tarp for $25 or so might have a draw for people. But as a distribution system for a mass produced product... I have my doubts. If it is a unique configuration which meets an untapped need then yeah... but with just a description as offered... I wouldn't be an investor.

Now if the guy sent a tarp, to 2 or 3 of us, to "test" out. And we posted back here on how they performed..... depending on that test, could give him a better feel for how they might sell.

I mean... look at the parrot hammock... it doesn't even hole a candle to my clark but I'd still give it a passing grade provided you used it for a very limited range of situations.

Can we see a picture of said tarp?
I would agree that a couple of test tarps would be a great idea before making a big investment.
