I prefer the bottom entry too during bug season. I think I got my HH in 2002, so this will be the 13th year and it is still in good shape. I have the UL Backpacker and it is small inside which is what you would expect in an ultra-lite.
There are easier methods/lashings to secure the suspension. "The Ultimate Hang" book (page 64) shows a slippery half hitch that I use - easy to tie then adjust later.
And that is one impressive bike.
