I've read that putting 2-3 tennis balls in with a down sleeping bag into a tumble dryer will reinvigorate a bags loft.
I'm wondering for how long.

I'm not sure I would have the courage, mine was expensive.
You can wash it with a down-specific soap in the washing machine and then dry it in the dryer on low with the tennis balls until it is dry. It may take a few hours.
Be sure to use a front loading washer without an agitator. Don't use your typical top loader at home. Dry on lowest heat setting with some new tennis balls. If using a laundromat dryer, check it first to make sure it actually can do low heat.
Alternatively, some people wash by hand in a bathtub. Be sure to use down wash specifically made for down; Nikwax or ReviveX.
Use great are when lifting the wet quilt or bag because it's heavy with water. Try to gather up the while thing so you are supporting all the weight.
