Wondering if anyone has attempted a DIY HH Super Shelter. If so, how did it turn out? I am contemplating putting one together this weekend.

Any attempt I made failed miserably. It is not as straight forward as it would seem. At least for me. I don't know what I would use in place of the supplied OCF but that is acrually available fairly cheaply from HH. I'm not sure what the unique isses behind the undercover are but I was never able to get the correct fit. Just my experience. To me it was worth the purchase.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I'd bet a KAQ is just as easy to make. I'd rather have a DIY KAQ than a DIY SS.
I'm just sayin'!

KAQ pattern does not make a good SS undercover pattern. I've tried it a couple of times with a couple of different tweaks. However, the KAQ pattern makes an excellent underquilt. I can't explain the difference. If you want a DIY under insulation for a HH then by all means concentrate on the KAQ project and don't try to duplicate the SS on a DIY basis. IMO.

Thanks to both of you for your input so far. I have been debating between the two right now as I can only aford one. I am leaning towards the KAQ, and it would definately be cheaper to build the SS over the KAQ so I was curious if anyone had tried it previously. Thanks again.
A DIY Speer Pad Extender with a DIY UnderCover are cheaper still. The UC doesn't have to be very tight-fitting, since your pads will be inside the hammock with a DIY SPE.
No one chooses an OCF pad over a CCF pad, unless they get a SS. Hennessy selected OCF so that they could contour the pad to fit the occupant of the hammock. It's an interesting design. To my knowledge, no pattern exists. However, it is essentially a short, thin, foam Snugfit.
