However I have decided to take the figure 9s off each time I pack up my tarp as the hook & bite end of the figure 9s tend to tangle up my lines when I unpack my tarp. I would prefer to leave them on but it is faster to put them on each time than it is to untangle their hooking of my lines. The lines themselves don't get tangled but the hook & bites grab the coiled or wrapped lines.

If you can show me a better way I'd sure be interested.
Here is what i did to fix that problem. I put my tarp in the stuff sack with the front end on the top (front dring), so i can quickly connect it to the toggle when i pull it out. But on top of this dring i put my wrapped up ridgeline. Now i hang the fig 9 outside of the hole in the top of the stuff sack and sinch the stuff sack tight. I wrap the line dangling down past the fig 9 around the fig 9 and secure it in the fig 9's 'teeth'. The other part of the line is tucked securely into my tiny jrb biner.

Sorry I am new to HF and am just about to get my hammock. I've also toyed with the idea of using the Figure 9 for my ridgeline. Does anyone have any pics of how one is set up, especially for those that keep it on their line all the time?

    Thanks!

While the figure 9's are a neat item one should know how to tie a few different types of knots. I have fig 9's but have gone back to tying my ridge lines.

Agreed. I either use a tautline hitch or a Speer 4-wrap knot on mine.

Agreed with one caveat....when its winter and the gloves are on...so are the F9's, much easier than trying to tie knots.

The pics on the fig 9 retail cards will cover all that. I'm not trying to dodge the question but the card instructions are some of the best I have ever seen on a mass produced item.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I have since removed my jrb tiny biner, replaced it with a simple double bowline that is pretty big, i jus wrap my line around the tree, put the rest of the line through the bowline and its secured. THen i secure the line to the other tree with fig 9, easy enough, and one less piece of hardware.

That's when I'm more likely to tie the Speer 4-wrap. The longer I hammock and backpack, the less I'm interested in gizmos and more interested in using or learning actual skills.
