    frost or condensation bib design

Can't get a hit by searching so I thought I'd ask...

Ran into some severe condensation issues that were probably caused by my breath. Shug recommended using a condensation or frost bib. His looks functional but I was looking for something with a little more design to it. I have some fleece, a small-diameter tent pole section, and a sewing machine. Shug's is sort of triangle shaped with the apex attached to his CRL and the base velcro'd around his neck. I was thinking I'd sew a channel in one end of the fleece for the tent pole section so that mine is more rectangular in shape. I'd attach the tent pole section to the RL. However, I'm pretty much guessing on the best design.

    Existing designs?

    Ideas?

    Test results?

That's sounds like a lot going on there. I like the 'keep it simple stupid' phrase, and comes to mind when I try to over complicate things. All I do is take my large wool bandana and lay it on top of the quilt and tuck it in the neck, just like you would tuck a napkin into your shirt to eat dinner.

I tried a pole, stick actually. Found it cumbersome in the longrun. What I have used has kept condensation at bay for many a winter trip.
    That is my 3¢ worth.

Someone else actually did this with a dowel rod...I forget who. Instead of making it more complex, I actually started just laying the bib over my TQ and not even connecting it to the ridgeline. But I only worry about condensation around my neck...never any big problems elsewhere.

The reason I got interested in a frost bib is because I ended up with a massive amount of condensation on my TQ, which I think was probably caused from my breath. I'm going to forego complexity and just do it simple. That's good advice. Thanks, guys.

The one I made has stick pockets and seems to work quite well. This video will show some details of it.

    Good luck,

Thanks, Red. That's kind of what I had in mind. I'm going to get out there and play around with it a bit.

I've had success with a rectangle of fleece with a hole in it - similar to what Shug demonstrates although I don't have a ridgeline to clip it to (bridge hammock). Works fine for me. I'm using it in pulk conditions so I'm not overly concerned with the weight/bulk of the thing...it's not much though...

My suggestion....start simple and work from there.

Bumping this thread since a frost/condensation on my TQ is one thing I really need to improve. Right now I just put an old t-shirt over my neck with the back/sleeves cut off - only the front lies over the TQ. But it moves around and sometimes slides off.

What is everyone else doing? I like the idea of attaching it to the ridgeline, but what if you don't have one? Just looking for pics, ideas, whatever...
