    TQ baffles

OK, curiosity has gotten the better of me...

My research seems to point that current ideas say end-to-end baffles work better than side-to-side baffles for UQs due to gravity, curvature, etc.

So, does the same theories apply to a TQ?
It would seem that gravity wouldn't have the same impact since the quilt is on top and nearly all the sleeping bag manufactures use side to side baffles when end to end would seem like less work (less # of baffles for sure)

Or does it matter on a TQ with a footbox?
    inquiring minds want to know

Honestly, there really can't be much of a difference. I mean unless you're REALLY big there isn't going to be that much curvature to a top quilt. Maybe slightly more if you're a side sleeper?? Even if that were a problem, it is much easier to adjust down distribution in a top quilt than an under quilt when they are in use.

Personally, I'm going to be making a top quilt with side-to-side baffles for one reason; I think it will be easier to stuff shorter/smaller volume baffles.

Don't really need baffles at all for a TQ.

Karo steps work really well for a TQ.

I have reviewed your Karo quilt but I think I'm making it overly complicated. (just 6" baffles in 12" squares?)
Does it keep the down in place well (any cold spots)?
-Knowing you , you have some nice, organized diagrams you can send me? (saw them in your original post!)
-can a Karo quilt be modified for a footbox? and now I continued reading and see the footbox! Good deal!

    More to think about

Baffles run most efficiently across the body... Down stays proportioned to each part of the body as designed, yet it can be force shifted to center or edges as desired.

for my top quilts, I ran the baffles across the body (side to side). On my winter tq I added more down in the foot baffle section because I always seem to have cold feet (but if I put on socks, my feet are way to hot). I will shift the down to one side on my summer quilt if I'm too hot. This is what worked for me.
