    Tweaking my suspension

Hey guys, first time poster so forgive me if I screw up the etiquette. I am looking at tweaking my suspension. My current set up is Tree Huggers with Marlin Hitch to Whoopie Sling to Carabiner to Continuous Loop on hammock. Is there any reason not to lose the continuous loop and biners and just thread the Whoopie Sling through the gathered in? My only thought is maybe the biners provide a rain break.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

one reason is to keep the suspension separate from the hammock, so if the whoopies get wet then you can detach them from the hammock.

My first setups were just what you are thinking about. The water break and inability to separate from hammock (already mentioned) are the reasons I switched.

This is what I use on my first set ups. I used a piece of string as a water break, but then had to deal with the wet whoopies, so switched to Dutch Whoopie hooks, so I could detach my hammock and keep the weight down.

Personally All of my hammocks are rigged with the whoopies right through the channel. Polyester and Amsteel are both hydrophobic so they don't absorb a ton of moisture. I keep my straps separate from the hammock more to keep sap off the hammock than any moisture issues. As far as a water break the tail of the whoopie should direct most and a secondary back up would be to tie a half hitch with the tail just above the hammock on the base of the sling. For me more gear is more gear and more gear is gear I have to carry.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to try it without the continuous loops - I can always add them back if it doesn't work out. Thanks again!

Another way to keep suspension "separate" but still attached, so you don't lose or misplace your gear, is to put hammock in one stuff sack and the suspension in another stuff sack. But they would be connected by the suspension going into both sacks. And you can eliminate the second sack by stuffing the suspension into a sock as it exits the hammock stuff sack. I've never tried this idea but I like a modular suspension that works like an all-in-one in the field. So I don't lose small parts of my gear.

I use Dutch biners to connect my whoopies to loops.

New Dutch hammock may get whooies through the channels. Just to simplify things.

Weindog, I noticed that I'm a bit late to this thread, but I came across a great video about water breaks and drip lines a while back. You mentioned in your question about whether or not biners would make a good water break, so I thought I'd share this video. I found it to be rather interesting and helpful.
