Some newb questions about hammock ridgeline and UQ suspension

    Hello everyone!

So I've had my hammock for about two weeks (dutch polyd with whoopies), haven't taken it out yet- doing so next weekend but I've been practicing setting it up in the park. I've got the tarp and hammock figured out for the most part but two things still stumping me-

    1. How do you attach the hammock ridgeline? Is there a specific knot or knots that you all like to use and what part of the hammock or suspension do you tie it to?

    2. I've been trying to set up my underquilt with shock chord and carabiners as seen on shug's video, but i'm having a really hard time with it. To me it seems my underquilt is too heavy (its full length), although I've seen heavier ones used so i'm sure I'm just doing something wrong. whenever I hook it up, it seems to max out the shock chord. So it will be riding high like in shug's video, but then have no give to it when I try to actually get in the hammock. does that make sense?

Any help is very much appreciated!

Your ridge line can really be set up any number of ways. It's a matter of personal preference. It also depends if you just have cord or if you have a constructed ridge line (either fixed or adjustable)

For me I hang mine on the carabiner going to my atlas straps.

If you bought an adjustable structural ridge line for your hammock, you can larks head both ends onto the ends of gathered end hammock. That is a whoopie sling made of lash it or zingit made just for hammock ridge lines. If you are going to make your own, using lash it or zingit for a fixed length ridge line; put a fixed loop in both ends using splices (better than knots) or knots (alpine butterfly loop ( weaker than splices) : then larks head loops onto ends of gathered end hammocks.
