Good luck!
I'd rather be hanging.
I'd be curious to see how much weight treated down would take on
Well, the tq had dried a little too much just sitting in the hammock for 8 hours. So I hosed it down again before crawling in for the night. Its quite damp in here and I got my clothes a little wet shaking off the tq. But I am warm so far. 43F and a light breeze. No tarp with a big moon and stars out. See you guys tomorrow.
you sir are a LOON./ a scientific loon
Wouldn't willingly do it to my gear but I do look forward to hearing the report lol.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me... Philippians 4:13
I was thinking once it gets compressed it would loose its loft. Either way, given the choice, I'd rather go with Hyperdry down.
hahahhahaahahahahhahaa
way to go Strung Out Keep up the Looniness
Funny the quilt was "dried a little too much" after 8 hrs in the Hammy so you soak it and crawled in ....now that is just hard core getting it down cause real world results/truths matter
Congrats to taking it to the next level
Keep it up!!!!!!!!!!!
Life is too Short to not feed the addiction....Hang on and explore the World
I survived!
Actually, I was quite warm and comfortable.
I wore the clothes I would have on the trail in these conditions.
light long underwear top and bottom. thin nylon pants. thin fleece top. ankle high merino socks.
And I did get a bit wet all over the front of my clothing as I shook the excess water from the TQ right before bed.
Also, the hammock and UQ must have had a decent amount of moisture in them from the wet TQ laying in it all day.
It took a few hours for the torso area to loose the heavy damp feeling.
The leg area took a few more hours to feel dry.
The quilt was quite dry in the morning.
The only part of it that was a bit wet and clumpy was the first baffle by the neck area.
This is the dirtiest part of the quilt and I rung some water from it after spraying it down the first time.
However, the clumping had eased up a lot overnight, and it is nearly back to normal now.
The temps only got to 38F. However we had some winds from 8-10mph near sunrise. (this is basically a 30F top quilt)
This is only a couple examples of how my down gear performs when it gets rained on or sprayed down with a garden hose.
Please test your own gear in your own controlled environments before making any conclusions.
Personally, I have been rained on because of going to sleep with tarp rolled up more than once.
It gets a bit exciting when the tarp is still in your backpack.
This is my style and I like it. It's not right for everyone.
Be smart guys and gals.
Have fun out there and always come home safe.
TQ lost over 4oz of water weight just laying in the hammock all day
Settling in for the night with the wet quilt.
Quilt is nearly at it's normal dry weight in the morning
You da man!
