Wow, great color combo. I'm taking a crack at a TQ this weekend. Hope it comes out half as good. Nice work, love how the footbox color comes through

Looks like a real nice quilt man.
I'll bet it is good to about 30 in a hammock.

    Is it really 950 Hyperdry?
Where did you find 950 at?

Really nice quilt. I still haven't figured out the Karo thing yet. It's interesting.

Thanks guys. Yep, the down really is 950 hyperdry. I've confirmed with Kay at Quest that the current batch of down they're selling is from Allied and that the WR treatment is their newest 'HyperDry'.

Rumor has it this 950+ stuff is extremely limited and hard to come by, its not even listed on allied's site (last I checked) because of it. Tim Marshal at EE said he managed to buy 11 pounds of it a while back and that was enough to wipe out their entire stock. So, I don't know how long Quest will be able to source it for but if you're interested in picking some up I'd recommend you do so soon.

    Good stuff.

Beautiful quilt and great details! I suspect it will get you well below 40°

Nicely done, impressive work. Wondering if you could share your impressions on the Membrane 10 vs Argon 67 in terms of feel and perceived durability? Any particular reasons for choosing each? Lastly, how would you say they compare to sewing silnylon - more/less slippery, etc? Also I think thats more like a 30 degree quilt. Thanks!

    Sure thing.

Ive actually used pretty much all of the 10d fabrics readily available to us DIYers. My favorites are the Argon67 (sold by dutch), the Membrane10 (sold by Rip Stop by the Roll), and Pertex Quantum GL (currently available from Zpacks). Zpacks has a new 10d fabric available now called Ventum, or something like that, which I have not tried but if Zpacks decided to carry it id be willing to bet its good stuff.

Really, most of these fabrics are very very similar. They are all very easy to work with with just a little practice. Use the smallest needle you can find and dial in your thread tension on some scrap. Pertex is slightly more prone to fraying in my experience, but its not too bad. Argon is probably the easiest to work with, but really like I said the difference between these materials is very small.

As for Argon 67 vs Membrane 10, well, the obvious difference is that Argon is ripstop and Membrane is not. Both fabrics are extremely soft and have fantastic hand, but the Membrane is slightly silkier due to it not being ripstop. However, you could argue that argon is more durable and easier to manage a rip if one did occur, because its ripstop. The one huge huge difference is that membrane comes in a bunch of different colors, which is awesome. That said, the brown and grey argon colors are really pretty cool.

Now, if only Kyle at RTBR would come up with a 10d ripstop. Please Kyle? Pretty please??? How about a 10d hyperD? I'd be all over it.

    Hope that helps.

First of all there's nothing I don't like about your new creation!

Second and third: I especially like the contrasting footbox and how "narrow" the gaps are in the Karo pattern - that should prevent much of the shifting which plagues Karo quilts.

    Great job.
