    Umbrella endcover for hammock

If someone could find a way to secure an umbrealla so that it coverred the end of a hammock from rain and stayed in place, filling the space between the tarp side, that would be genius. If anyone has any ideas lemme know, i am trying to figure ways out but am stuck.

Not sure I understand the purpose of that. With the right size tarp ... the end can be adequately or fully covered. But maybe I'm missing something.

I'm in agreement with Hawk-Eye. I don't see the point, especially when a well designed, properly pitched tarp will keep your hammock plenty dry.

Careful Hooch ... people have been committed for less than that!

Slowhike showed me how his umbrella can be suspended by a loop on the tip. You could toss a line over a branch above and haul it up, then lash the handle to something on the tarp. Half of the umbrella would need to overlap the tarp, or the runoff would be a bother.

I'd rather use an umbrella on the ground, to stop wind blown rain from coming in under the tarp and getting my pack, shoes or ground mat wet.

I would be concerned about the umbrella chafing the tarp.

Yeah, if I can get away w/ it, I like to keep my tarp high, giving an open feel & nice view, but if there is blowing/ drifting rain, it can allow the end of the hammock to get wet unless extra cover is provided at one or both ends.

At some point (more rain & wind) you just have to lower the tarp, but often times I can cover the end (especially the windward end) & keep it high. You do need a loop on top of the umbrella. Some have them (GoLight Chrome Dome?) but I added one to mine.

I've not seen any evidence or felt any concern about the umbrella damaging the tarp, but this is just an occasional use & if the wind were too much, I'd probably just lower the tarp instead of trying to use the umbrella.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

I too have thought of this. The only thing I could come up with, and I never tried it feeling if it didn't work the brolly would be destroyed; for max coverage, the handle would have to be in line with your suspension, thereby having the umbrella centered on the end of the hammock.

What I came up with: cut a appropriate sized hole in the fabric just next to the center of the umbrella, attaching a replacement flap with Velcro (I figured on top of the fabric, using stick on Velcro or Omni Tape). to use, thread the hammock end thru the hole in the brolly, use a strip of Velcro / Omni Tape as a band to hold the handle in place. As I said: I never got around to doing this & with my (HUGE) tarp if the wind manages to blow the rain in, I did something majorly wrong in site selection. But, I can always close the end of my tarp, so "aint no thing".

FWIW: I actually only carried a Umbrella / Brolly on one 3 day hike, I did not like having to carry it. May carry one after trying the hook it to your pack thing shown here:
