    My DIY Hammock Under Quilt

Well...we don't claim to be professionals or know what we're talking about or even doing for that matter but my friend and I decided to take a shot at making our own underquilts. We did research on here and youtube and took a stab at it before our 4 day trip to Dolly Sods, WV (as you'll hear plenty about in video). We may have/probably did many things wrong but we're definitely happy with the results. Our goal was to mimic the Eno Blaze UQ but spend half the money. I think in total, when all was said and done, we came in at around $90, which is much less than the $300 price tag on the Blaze.

    Check the video out here:

Apologize in advance for all the rambling and misuse of certain terms haha we're amateur youtubers as well.

    Major items purchased:
Ripstop was purchased at http://ripstopbytheroll.com/ (1.1 oz calendared/downproof)
Down we got out of quilt off craigslist
    Shockcord/stops were purchased off amazon
Everything else was pretty much from JoAnn's

Please don't beat us up too much haha

FYI-we are both PITT fans...my room mate is the PSU fan...H2P!

Sweet! looks good. You might want to try linelocs from one of the vendors like diy gear supply... might stop the slippage. Nice work.

Congrats on a great DIY project! Great production.

Agree with the line loc tip above. also, a prusik loop to the shock cord at the corners can help keep the UQ from slipping and also keep it stretched out, too.

After finding my Climashield UQ too bulky for my pack and not quite warm enough, I started making my own down UQ and am nearly finished. Down source: a tired, old Eddie Bauer quilt that a good friend gave me in exchange for a Hiking Dad inspired bridge hammock. I was lucky to only be making UQ as I had enough down to overstuff it, with its 2.5" high baffles.

    Happy trails!

Nice. Thanks for all the positive feedback. We really didn't know how this was going to turn out being that we didn't have any experience.

That's a pretty good score Kayak4water. Hope your UQ turns out good!

@bird101 - Mine (orange on orange) weighs a hefty 4.4 lbs. I have been debating doing surgery and attempting to remove the synthetic fill and replace with more down.

Mine (gray, black and red) weighed in at 2.7 lbs. Which I'm pretty happy with but could have been lighter if i'd have used nothing but down as well.
