Good point. Maybe it is the mint they leave on my clothing bag after cleaning up my campsite.

Yeah, due to this a bunch of the trails and shelters are closed. My boy scout troop was planning a 50 miler along a lot of those trails/shelters, but it's been rerouted and is shorter... Such a strange event to happen though.

In general, I hate any kind of restrictions, but I guess that works only for intelligent people practicing LNT. Stories like this make me wish that passing a test was required to get a camping permit, much like a driver's license!

So glad to see the young man is doing well considering the nature of the attack. And to think Dad drove the bear off "kicking him in the face with his bare feet!" So,unlike some of us,Dad will likely not have any trouble finding hiking partners in the future.Just sayin'...

MAD, have you lost your mind? Look at how people drive. And you, a resident of the Sunshine State should know better. Let's chalk up this mental indiscretion to you spending too much time in the sun.

Ha! So true. Tests haven't weeded out the bad drivers. Statistics report that 1/3 of the drivers in Miami haven't taken the test nor have a driver's license. And 2/3 don't have insurance.
