My first overnight hang ended early!

Well I tried my first overnight in the hammock last night. Unfortunately I had to call it quits at 3 am. Was hanging in my back yard so it was pretty easy to quit. I live in NE philly and there was just too much city noise to stay asleep. Between my dog moving around(it was her first night outside as well), Car alarms, Equipment back up alarms(construction on a rode by my house ), Amtrac going by, Crotch rockets running around, And other noises it made a successful hang impossible for me. Might give it another try with ear plugs. The reality is I would have probably gotten woke up at like 6am from everyone headed off to work. So a backyard hang might be out of the play books for me.

heh I hear ya on the noise issue. I got my hammock back in the early spring and I tried my first night out in the back yard on a saturday night. There were just too many people out driving around at 2am for my tastes and loud cars with the bass blasting kept waking me up. I bailed at about 3am and went inside where it was a little quieter. Thankfully, the forest is never that noisy and once you get away from the other humans it's usually pretty nice at night.

Ear plugs ear plugs ear plugs. I use them at festivals and can sleep through not only the sounds of generators running but the sound systems they're powering. The foam ones that you twist before inserting are great. The silicone ones block out even more but they pick up grime and since they're sticky, you can't just brush them off.

This was one of the first things I noticed on my first hang in the backyard. Even though I live in a small rural town the noise was a bother. I stuck it out and finally fell asleep. I was nice though to woken up by the cooing of a couple doves and a lone goose flying round honking, probably looking for it's mate. Looking forward to my first real hang in MI this weekend with a few guys from the forum.

I finally decided it was a loss cause when the pup when bolting across the yard after something. Went in and snuggled up to my wife and fell asleep instantly. Slept right through my alarm. On a positive note it was about 60* out and I wasn't cold with no UQ and a 40* synthetic bag. Although being inside a bag in a hammock was quite annoying.
