    Suspension/Gathered End Question

I was looking over Speer's site thinking of investing in some more light weight backpacking gear and couldn't really tell what the suspension system is like on the Speer Hammocks. I tried to get a look at the pictures, but they weren't very clear. Is it just a gathered end knot? Is a built-in poly-strap ? Is it a carabiner?

Any insight would be nice, and pictures would be REALLY nice.

    Thanks!

The Speer is a gathered end hammock, with a length of 1.5" webbing tied in to the end knot. He suggests a 4-wrap knot to hang from the tree.

It is a very simple and effective arrangement. But, it is extremely easy to swap it out for almost any other suspension method should you desire.

How long are the straps on the ends of the Speer? Thanks for such a fast and productive response.

I don't recall the exact length. 10-12 feet per end, roughly.

Those straps also have the ridgeline for the bug net attached to them.

If you replace the straps, you'll have to devise another method of supporting the net. No hill for a climber, but it will need doing.
