Hi folks, just thought I'd share an idea I had with you.

Let me start by saying that this is not a "leave no trace" friendly way to hang... but it ain't bad either...

I run a hunting and fishing forum (huntandfishnj.com) and one of our members posted this one day in our trapping subforum. If you combine this technique with two standing posts (two inverted Vs / Bipods) you could hang your hammock anywhere the soil was sturdy - no massive tent spikes required.

Note: I've never tried this with a hammock - but I'd bet it'd work just great.

If you used cordage of some kind, it should be pretty easy to remove, leaving nothing but the rivet and the washer.

What a great idea (cordage vs cable)!

You could use some kind of pull-release knot and have the other end sticking out of the ground as well...

As an alternative, you can generally get these out of the ground by pulling STRAIGHT up but it takes a mound of earth out with it.

Let me know if anyone tries this.

What about climbing accessories like Camlocks or Nuts?

I mean solid rock... I want to make permanent hanging points inside cowboy hotels!

If you are serious about adding the anchor points, Mac, you need to look into "sport" climbing resources. Climbers regularly use a battery or even hand (hammer) drill to make holes and then attach anchor bolts into them. These are capable of catching a lead climbing fall measured in multiple tens of feet in distance fallen, so they ought to hold a hammock

Found this site. Seems like an option. A couple of washers and the pogostick driver, should be ok with even the gram weenies, minus leaving a washer in the ground. Frozen tundra might be an issue.

I may try to make a carbon fiber driver w/ steel tip for these just to see how light I could make it. You wouldn't be able to "lean" into it like that guy on the video though - if it failed it would impale / kill you :-) You would have to hammer it in with a stout stick.

I'll let y'all know when I get around to that. Please let me know if any of you try this!
