Northern AL looking for river side hang

    Hello,

I live in Huntsville AL and my son and I are looking for a place to hang with a river we can fish in. We both enjoy the freedom and seclusion of the Sipsey (vs must hang at a campsite) but have not found much in the way of fishing.

A co-worker mentioned Little River Canyon in Ft Payne

Any other inputs would be great from fellow hangers!

Do you have any kind of watercraft? Boat, canoe, kayak?

If so, look into Big Bear Creek in Colbert County (NW AL). Lots of good fishing spots, and plenty of hanging opportunities along the banks.

Hetairoi and I did a kayak trip on it this summer...very nice.

In Bankhead there's Brushy Creek campground, Smith Lake there's Corinth, Huston, Clear Creek campgrounds + more on Cullman side. Then there's the TN. river campgrounds like Mallard Creek, Johnson Hollow, Spring Creek, Wheeler Dam and lots more on the river. On Sipsey and Thompson Creeks you got to find fishing holes to fish and camp where you want! I hope this helps! Good Luck!

I want to do the same thing sometime. I have a boat so I can get to places by water but it would be so nice to be able to go primitive camp near water just off the river. I will be doing some "exploring" by water in November before duck season so I might try to find something that I can get to by truck as well. Sometimes I don't want to drag all the extra stuff around.

I have no water craft. Just love the sound of running water and the joy of fishing with my son.
