    Poncho Liner Top Quilt question....

Sure it has been hashed and rehashed, but someone confirm my logic is at least not totally off...

I want to "downsize" my gear as in dollar amounts invested, and feel the pride of DIY, without sacrificing dramatically...

Want to make a top quilt from poncho liner FOR SUMMER USE ONLY...think the synthetic would be good because summer sweating in it all Summer...less laundering/issues with the down one....

Seems I can make one with snap style footbox at about 16 ounces....(74" long x 50" tapered design)

Good to about 50-55 degrees by most peoples assessment....

    Being the motivations as above:

Am I nuts for parting with my Hammock Gear Down 40 degree quilt(17 ounces) for somewhere around $170 bucks return, and investing $25 in poncho liner for project???

Should say volume in pack is not an issue as I as swimming in space with summer setup in my Virga 2 pack

If it were me and I wanted the satisfaction of DIY, I'd still try out the poncho liner quilt a few times before I got rid of my HG down quilt. I have some DIY 2.5 climashield quilts that I use for the warmer weather, but also have a HG 20 deg incubator for the colder part of the year.

I made a PLTQ today. Kept it at 84" long, cut to 52" across the top and narrowed it down midway to 40". Made a 20" long footbox, sewn on 1 side, and used shock cord for the end to be able to vent it. Rolls up to size of Nalgene bottle, weighs 14.625 ounces. Should be good down to mid-40's I'm thinking. Gonna fill the gap between my 30 degree TQ and my summer silk sheet.
I've gone to find myself. If I get back before I return, make sure I stay here.

When I see lovers' names carved into a tree, I don't think it's cute. I think it's strange how so many people take knives on a date.

Like Boulderv7 and Punkisdead told me " Pics or it didn't happen" LOL. Anyway...... I'd really like to see the finished TQ to get some ideas on converting a Wally World lightweight synthetic SB into a summer quilt. Gonna PM ya w some questions about DIY hammock details too. Cheers Hunter

I was actually thinking about taking my woobies and making a top quilt and under quilt to use in warmer weather and to practice making a TQ and UQ. Thanks for the inspiration.

I used a poncho liner as a top quilt this weekend. Had three season jarbidge under quilt no foot pad or socks. Slept in shorts and a t-shirt low said 54 F.overnight. Would not say I was overly warm. I was comfortable until it started to rain at sunrise. Was not cold but wished I had a little more laying there listening to the rain.
