Hello everyone! I am a hammock noob, upon noob, upon noob. So much of a noob that I don't even own a hammock yet. In fact, every time I've been in a hammock I was not particularly into it. However, something about the idea of hammock camping is drawing me in. I'm getting the bug, and unfortunately I have not been able to buy one yet, or do any camping in a while. Historically I've done tents, and would probably continue to use them if its just me and my wife. Who knows? Maybe I'll get her into it and we'll do a bunk hammock situation.
From what I've seen the possibilities with hammocks seem pretty wide spread, and they seem to be fairly minimal in their impact of the land. One question I do have, and one I've seen asked before, is what about mesa camping? I can think of ways to go to ground with certain hammocks, and I know there are hammocks like DD that are designed to turn into a bivy. Though I wonder how comfortable one would be in the heat of day in a bivy on the desert floor. I'm thinking an extra tarp to pitch some shade at least. Food for thought.
