How are the Kevlar straps holding up for you guys?

    Hello everyone.

I just bought some kevlar from Dutch, and also just came across this post:

    https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...=1#post1474309

This is the first time I have heard of a failure of these straps.

I would like to hear the details of this failure and also any other stories of real world use in the field or other testing.

What is your suspension setup, and your weight, and how many hangs have you had on these?

    Thanks

I got them right away when they came out. I sew a loop in one end and thread thru it around the tree. I have maybe 10 nights on them and one loop is showing significant wear, from abrasion against itself, I suppose. I think the Dutch clip would prevent this, but don't use them. The Kevlar is really, really light, and expect such light equipment to require more care or upkeep/replacement. FYI, I use the straps, toggles and dynaglide whoopies on an argon 1.6 hammock with channels. I weigh 165 lbs.

I bought mine with a loop already sewn in one end. The strap goes around the tree and through the loop. I use a Dutch Buckle to attach my Whoopie Sling to the strap. I weigh 165 lbs.

I've used them for 7 nights on the trail this season. I can detect no signs of wear at this point.

Thanks for reminding me to check them though...

I've had about ten nights on my kevlar and they look in great shape still, I weigh 95kg and use knots or UCR.

Admittedly they are worryingly light and thin but seem pretty tough. I was pretty impressed actually and have been thinking about using just kevlar straps and knots and ditching the hardware.

I've used them on a few 2-3 day hikes and I have noticed that they do show wear much quicker than normal straps. I have been using them with both the AHE buckles, and the Dutch Ti buckles (Dutch says to not do this, I'm a rebel I guess)I haven't seen anything major yet, they do twist more than normal straps which means taking more care when setting up. I have yet to see any fraying, but I only have about 8 nights on them. I just got a set of strap anchors in that I will test them with in the next few weeks.

I have one and have used it on several trips now. I has more wear than I expected, but nothing dangerous to my eyes so far.

Kevlar will degrade faster and lose strength-- especially in sunlight. I'm pretty sure Dutch talks about this in the description of the item on his website. He's usually pretty transparent.

I Have used mine for 15 nights so far. I bought 25 feet of the Kevlar strapping and made 2- 10 foot straps to use with Cinch buckles. I use Dutch clips for around the trees. They are stained from sap from spruce trees and rain, but no excess wear or fraying. I did do a "rolled hem" on the ends since they would fray/unravel otherwise.

I have a weeks worth of nights in mine. No fraying, although the straps do fold over on themselves and scrunch up from being so thin. I have dinaglide whoopies and use my speed hooks as whoopie hooks now. I put 2 box stitches on each loop so 3 bar tacs a piece. Loop with the whoopie pulls right through the other loop. I weigh 160. They fold up so small that if I can get the rest of this season out of them I will gladly replace them, otherwise back to poly.

I've used my 4 footers with sewn in clips about a dozen times now and they look dirty but no loss in safety in my eyes.

You guys are scaring me with your straps wearing out so quickly. I thought these were suppose to be the future.
