    TQ Widths

I've got the the length and foot box figure out for a TQ, but I'm kinda of stuck on width. HG offers 50 and 55 inches. This is will be my first TQ. I'm 5'10"and currently 220lbs. I do like to side sleep most of the time in my bed but haven't slept overnight in the hammock yet. Than there is having to go to the ground from time to time. Any hangers that are in my weight range than can comment on TQ widths?

In the warmer temps you would probably be okay with the standard width even on the ground on your side. Once it gets cool (50 or below) I think you would like the extra width.

If you side sleep and want it for ground use also, go with the 55" width.

I always recommend a little extra width if you're on the fence, better to have too much quilt than not enough quilt....

I'm 6' 185lbs and I got a wide TQ from HammockGear. I think it's just right. One thing I did was to take some chip clips and fold a fleece blanket at 50" and lay on the ground, then do the same thing for 55". I liked the 55" much better. In the hammock I just get to lay my legs any way I want and flop my arms about and not have to sleep straight as a mummy.

I am about the same size and planning to go with the 55" myself. The way I see it is better to have a little more in the hammock with me and not need it than to not have enough and wish I had it in the middle of a chilly night. Hope the one ya get works out for ya. Cheers!

If you aren't a ground sleeper, you don't need a wide, 50" is plenty, unless you're a really large. My first quilt was a wide and I don't really regret it persay, but it's way too much. With an underquilt wrapping up around you, the standard width is perfect.

I did a DIY TQ, I hate cold spots so I made the TQ nice and wide. Well I have found it to be a PITA. Problem is part of it gets under my body and becomes uncomfortable, like a big fold in your hammock. On the ground the TQ is great, Hanging, not so great. I have another quilt by UG it is normal width, works great.

I am starting on another TQ I am not going to make it wide, 50 inches is going to be more than adequate. I do put a draft collar on all quilts, the dab of extra fabric really cuts drafts without a lot of weight or fiddling.
