I slept on the ground above treeline...

...and it was awful! I was with a friend and we went above treeline. It was certainly beautiful, and I was glad of the experience to see the sun rise over the mountain, but I've been in a hammock for a few years and I my decision is just reinforced even more.

I feel like a whiner here, but dangit - I was sore from sleeping on my side and chilled when my top quilt didn't quite meet the ground when rolling over. I hope I don't have to do that again for a while.

Always good to dabble with the other side...just to reinforce how good hanging is.....but only in the Alpine...since the views are kinda worth itKitimat-Stikine B-20140819-01184.jpg

I hear you...I found myself having to take 2 ground pads to sleep better on the ground. A 1 inch foam and a 1 inch inflating. A little extra weight, but worth the sleep.

You're telling me... I'm embarking on a six-day through-hike with a friend in the Weminuche Wilderness next week, all along the Continental Divide, likely mostly above treeline.

I'm going to miss my hammock

Well, good luck with that. It will be worth it, I'm sure - maybe you should bring a small hammock just in case?

I wouldn't leave my hammock at home.

Someone needs to invent a packable hammock stand made out of some super lightweight exotic metal LOL, I would love to see those views posted above, but man I'd hate to go to ground.

Better believe I'm taking my hammock. 'It's only a few grams!' is always the excuse. But since few trees grow at 12,000 feet, ground-dwelling seems to be in the cards.
