Is this a DIY win-win proposition for any diyer?

So, I have this BIG (queen?) down blanket/quilt to harvest down from, but not the skills or time to invest in making a tq/uq. If I was to ship you the blanket, you make me a quilt, and keep the remaining down for yourself. What do you think? Good deal, or am being unreasonable?

It doesn't sound like a good deal to me. Making a quilt is quite a bit of work (8+ hrs) and the quality / fill power of the down is in question. The down is probably low fill power with feathers, hence, low value.

Another thing, you might be surprised that working a sewing machine isn't really that difficult. It may be intimidating at first but if you put your mind to it you could easily acquire the skill and make the time to make yourself a top notch set of quilts. You reap what you sow, or sew. Haha.

    Cheers

Thank you both for that info. Would you think the down was even worth harvesting? The tag says minimum 75% white duck down?

It depends. If it was free and you are not concerned with weight and don't mind plucking feathers then it may be worth it. My first two UQs were filled with down from a quilt like mentioned. Now they are loaner quilts, but still fully functional. I wouldn't take them backpacking.

Duck down is much coarser and less effective than goose down. Personally I would pass if I was looking for a high quality product. Otherwise I would just cut some peices off the comforter and hang it as a quilt. There are a number of tutorials which describe the process.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.
