I had an old aluminum walking cane (Very similar to the walking poles people use) that got screwed up, so I took the bottom section, cut off the ends then cut it in half, drilled a couple of holes, ran some 550 cord sheathing through the holes then sewed them to the ends of my tree straps.

Here is a good deal on some Aluminum Straws if you want to use them.

I use a 10mm knitting needle from Wally World. If you get the 12" long needles you can cut 4 sets for only $2.59

Thanks for all the great ideas!! I decided to go with the knitting needles since I already had some in the house. Yay for not having to spend money! Gonna go try them out tonight or tomorrow.

Remember- hang on the knot, not on the needle.

I use pieces of old aluminum tent poles. In a pinch, and stick will work, but when the hammock is loaded, it tends to make a groove in the stick, which makes it harder to remove (with a metal toggle, you can just slide it out easily )
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

Whoopie Hooks. Easiest way to go.

Instead of carrying toggles or hunting around for sticks, I have tied a bulky stopper knot (Oysterman's) at the very end of the tree strap. This allows for faster set-up. 98 % of the time there is ample room for adjustment in the system (sometimes putting two wraps of the strap around the tree); the remaining 2 % the time I shorten one of the straps with a marlinspike hitch, and find a twig to toggle it.

Thats awesome. I'm going to have to try that. I use an aluminum arrow i found in the woods.

I use a biner and just snap my ucr into it. After my son broke a few toggles and a few mishaps of not quite getting on the knot this seems to be the most fool proof way for us.
