    They were soooo wrong.

I see where you're coming from with this...as much as I hate to kill anything as all living things are here striving for the same thing, things that feed off of me and have the potential to spread human diseases gotta die. I'd be more worried about the effects of breathing in Permethrin all night while you sleep.

I'm OK with my place in the grand scheme. I defend myself from predators.

What an awful post, OP. I, for one, am frankly disgusted that a wholesome and family friendly forum would allow ANY member to encourage murdering our fair weather friends. Mosquitoes function in a vital role in the ecosystem YOU enjoy during hang-time by, ummm... Yeah, so what they do is... So their role is to...uhhh...

On second thought, never mind. Just kill em. ;p

Picaridin blocks the olfactory of SOME species of mosquitoes - good to go there

Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus - Repels insects but KILLS FUNGI and you should keep it away from your < 3 year old children

A combination of the two will; with widespread use, kill all fungi and destroy all children under three, I'd say we are good to go there also.

We solve the worlds population problem, we solve the worlds problems.

I thought that Florida had the Mosquito as they Unoffical state bird. I have seen many mosquito that were as large as birds

I find that my bug netting does a pretty good job at keep at bay the mosquito with out chemical treatments. I tend to avoid use of pesticides or similar products. I was a field service engineer and have been to many plants who create chemical products whether its soap/coal/paper etc etc etc. The production of these things creates by-products and pollution along with marketing teams brainwashing you into needing their products. You'll find me feeding the poor creatures more than killing them these days. But of coarse there is the bird flue and malaria and over population. If you find an errant mosquito that got through your defenses you can always just squish her.

On the home front, I follow my Dad's mantra: "If it moves, it dies."

In the woods, "If it's in my hammock, it dies." That goes for mosquitoes, moths, etc. I have yet to figure out how to apply that to a bear...

Here in Iowa we are like the new Vietnam nuking and spraying anything we can get our hands on (Ag use), so I tend to avoid using any MORE chemicals. That said, I don't have any qualms about killing a creature that is trying to eat, suck, nibble, gorge, attack, etc, etc me.

Untill someone can explain to me what a mosquito's place in the natural world is, that is to say how does it benefit the environment, then i say nuke 'em. The only purpose that i can think of is to feed bats, and dragon flys. But bats eat other bugs, and dragon flys must be on a diet or something.
Not happy about sleeping wrapped in chemicals, but first rime i slept out in new hammock (with bugnet i might add) before treating it, squiters feasted on my fat legs. I was a blod suckers buffet. So turn about is fair play. They are using germ warfare on us so a chemical rebuttal is only fair!
