    Kid Hammock Length

I know that a lot comes down to preference and comfort, but my two youngest also want a hammock now. The first is 4 foot 3 inches and the second is 5 foot. They are both growing slowly. Could they get by with an 8-9 foot hammock? I wanted to stay small to save on weight. Just want to know what others experience is, in order to know if it is just too small.

Maybe I could hang a table cloth at different lengths and find out what the kids think. Thanks for any feedback.

Personally, I don't see the point in a kid-length hammock. You may as well build it to adult specs so that it is useable for all.

I've only been doing the hammock thing for five years, but all three of my kids are at least 5'8", with the tallest at 6'1". It just doesn't strike me as a particularly wise endeavor to make shorter hammocks when they will eventually be taller. I've standardized on 10.5 ft. to 11 ft. hammocks and they seem to be fine with the choice.

I have a 7 year old and a 16 year old. They use the same length hammock. A standard ten foot is fine and then they can grow into it. Agree with Silvr, no need to get a special length hammock.

Agreed, not to mention a friend can sit with them.

My 10 yr old uses my handed down Explorer UL and the 6 yr old has his own Expedition. The weight/price savings going with a Scout or Cub model weren't significant enough to get them "kid sized" hammocks. This way I have extra adult-sized gear in case to loan.

Ok, I am convinced, for the extra few dollars will just make them all 11 footers.
