How light could you mod a HH Exped Asm?

Just a What If type thread to tap into the collective knowledge base.

I thought it may be fun to see what mods others have done or have dreamed up to lighten up their HH Asm setups.

I have an Exped, but any ideas are welcome.

Not sure if I lightened my Exped but I sure made it better after getting the 2QZQ #2 zipper mod and switching to strap/cinch buckle suspension system.

About all you can do is replace the suspension. Put those big ropes on a scale and estimate their weight to the best of your ability.

Lighten up by changing suspension, tarp, and dumping the stuff sack and use snake skins only.

    Thanks guys ....

Pretty much confirms my thoughts, although what Alan said really got me thinking.

I ordered two dutch clips and I'm going to stop at REI and pick up 4 1.5 inch Descending rings. Two ounces is certainly worth the ease of set up using a Garda hitch with the rings on one side of the tree huggers, along with the Dutch Clips on the other loop.

A worst case scenario keeps running through my mind ... I'm on a section hike on the AT and it's been raining for a while, perhaps days. I want to set up camp, but I don't want to spend 10 minutes futzing with multiple figure 8's and possible retying of one side or the other.

Instead, I'd want minimum set up and out of the rain. A bite to eat under the tarp then off with the wet clothes and relax in the hammock before sleep.

Thanks Alan for the suggestion .... I'm sure I'll love the quick setup.

If you are not set by the November Hang, several of us can show you our ring buckle systems that are quick set ups.

If you are changing suspension and want to cut weight out you could try Whoopie Slings. Lighter than webbing and rings, still adjusts quick and easy, you can continue to use the tree huggers that came stock with your HH just add a carabiner to make attachment to the huggers quick. And they are now available pre made, or the DIY tutorial is a good reference.
