WTB Hennessy Explorer Ultralight & REI Flash 65 pack

With a bad back, I'm in need of both a new light weight pack, I've prefer the REI Flash 65, and an ultralight hammock: HH Ultralight Explorer. I prefer the pack be unmodified. Thanks. I live in South Jersey and need new equipment before departure on weekend backpacking trip on 10/23/09. Thanks in advance.

REI is having their fall sale with a 20% off coupon if you wanted to purchase either of those new, now might be a good time.

Thanks, I actually did just that. Used my 20% coupon for the pack and ordered the Explorer Deluxe w/ snake skins on ebay.

That's the exact same combo I have and I'm from NJ as well. People might mistake us for twins.

I'm tempted to pick up that pack, would let me shed a few pounds compared to my Mystery Ranch or Gregory.

    I have the Flash 65.

Haven't used it a whole lot yet. But so far I like it and am putting all the different features to good use. The most I've carried in it is 23 pounds and that's counting food, water, fuel.

Used one trip with stays, framesheet and floating lid. Next trip didn't need the floating lid and removed it. I'll be using it again for my MAHHA prehike. I hope to keep weight under 25 pounds.

I've tried packing it at home without the stays and framesheet but didn't like how it felt against back. Seemed more comfortable with them in. 10 oz but needed the comfort. I'd be interested in hearing if anyone likes it without framesheet and stays and how much wt you are carrying and how you pack it. Wouldn't mind learning some new tricks if I could drop the 10 oz.

I added a Granite Gear pocket to left side hipbelt. Nice size. I wish right pocket on hipbelt were bigger.

    Flash 65 and HH

I'm picking up the Flash 65 at the nearest REI (Marlton, NJ) to me on Saturday, as it is just down the street from my doctor's appointment. Still 60 miles away but well worth it! Got the last Medium Flash 65 in stock. Had to have it shipped from the Conshohocken, PA store to Marlton. Should have the HH by tomorrow or Thursday. Just enough time to test it out and get comfortable w/ the rig before departing for Shenandoah National Park next Friday for a 3 day backpacking trip.

    Happy Camper,
I'm w/ you. With my bad back the frame and stays are more important to me than shedding those 10ozs. However I'm game on finding ways to shed another 10ozs.

I've got a Flash 65 too. I've used it on several trips this year so far. I am pretty happy with it thus far. It's been pretty comfortable and is pretty light. It seems to hold up well to abuse. I haven't tried it without the frame stays and sheet or without the lid yet but might give it a go without them this weekend on an overnighter.

    Hey Woodstock,

I'm in NJ also and will be going to SNP next Friday too. I'm leaving at 3:50 am. What about you?
