    Funny thing is that people in tents think they will be fine since they are in a clearing. I'd rather have 2 trees available to block any potential falling trees.

    Yikes!! I'm glad you were ok!! It's terribly frightening in the pitch black to hear trees (or even big limbs) crashing down and not really knowing where they're headed!!

    Does it really matter if your on the ground or a hammock? If a tree falls on you that big, your done no matter what, splat.

    I never said it would matter at all. I just said it made me uncomfortable, and it did. It made everyone else uncomfortable too and they were all sleeping in bear twinkies.

    That is a pretty rocky area, close to the water (Little river). Every time I camp there I think "what if?". I still camp there, but I think it every time (since at least 1962) And I have seen the aftermath of a fall, OMG!

    Glad you are OK. Just out of curiosity: which site(s) were you in?
