    Winter Yeti and Reflective Liner

My anticipation was answered today when my Warbonnet Traveler arrived with the two pieces of winter Warbonnet gear... the Yeti winter underquilt and the reflective liner.

The first thing I did was to shake the Winter Yeti and after a very few shakes it easily lofted to over 4.5". I took a look at the reflective liner and immediately thought that it was impressive piece of gear. I hadn't expected the reflective surface to be quite as metal-looking as it was. The liner attaches easily to the six snaps already on the Yeti, and the snaps are color coded to prevent improper attachment.

I'll be setting it up on the Traveler very soon, but in the meantime here are photos of the Winter Yeti, the reflective liner (folded to show both the reflective and nylon sides), and finally the liner attached to the Yeti (the combination also folded).

Forgive the less than perfect image quality since I used my Blackberry for the photos.

Super! Weight please. I've never paid much attention to reflextive liners and any of the postings about them, but I'm at the point where I should. What kind of warmth do they add? And how much does the liner weigh?

The weight of the Winter Yeti is 18.1 oz without the stuff sack... that makes it 5.8oz more than 3 season version and almost all of that weight difference is down. The reflective liner weighs 3.9 ounces and can be attached to either of the Yeti versions, since Brandon planned ahead on this feature.

I'm not an expert, but from what I know about down loft, the Winter Yeti should be good, on it's own, to around 5F. At a guess, I'd say that the reflective liner used on either version will add another 7F. I will be taking the combination out in some cold situations very shortly and will report back.

quoddy got the first reflective liner, basically the prototype i made to be sure they'd fit before i cut a bunch. it fit well, so the rest will be identical. that same liner measured 3.6oz on my scale.

these should be avail in about a week.

Inquiring minds and all...what material is the reflective liner? It's really shiny.

Does it breath or does it also act as a vapor barrier?

    Thanks - Jerry

I'm interested in this answer, too. Maybe Warbonnetguy will answer this one. I've never seen this material before, but I'm guessing that it's 70D ripstop nylon with a bonded reflective coating. For some reason, I thought that the reflective portion was going to be a separate layer... but once seen it obviously is one piece of material with the ripstop pattern showing in the reflective portion. It sure seems as if it will be a vapor barrier and that it is waterproof. It's a simple, but very impressive, piece of gear.

Is the winter yeti a full length quilt or is it 3/4 like the 3 seasons yeti....do we know the prices on the reflective liner and winter yeti yet...

The winter and 3 season Yeti's are exactly the same size (except for baffle height and down fill), which is why the liner fits either. I'll leave the pricing question for Brandon, but I'll say that the prices seem very reasonable on both.
