Taffeta, cotton or polyester dilemma please help.

Mrs Webhanger got mad when I told her I wanted to get rid of the bed and go to hammocks. She wanted to know why I don't love her anymore. Then she left and took a bunch of my gear. Six days later she came back and said get rid of the stupid mattress already. That hammock thing is awesome.

So we have been looking for the right hammocks and she can't decide on what she wants. In order to get rid of the bed soon we decided to use the tablecloth hammocks until we can decide on Mayans, Nicaraguan or Brazilian.

So now the question is which is best cotton, polyester or taffeta?

She wants to know what others like and why.

Please give me a hand and chime in with your experience and preferences.

You will need to refine your vocabulary if you want the best input. Cotton and polyesters are fibers. Taffeta is a weave pattern. Cotton and polyester come in a myriad of weave patterns. Taffeta comes in a myriad of fibers. IMO taffeta is the ideal weave for a comfortable hammock. For indoor use only I would likely go with cotton if I had a choice. Bed sheets are often made of cotton taffeta so the feel against the skin would be familiar. Beyond that... it is personal preference. Decide what qualities you want and search for those characteristics.

For immediate short term I'm just looking at the tablecloth factory fabrics. While we decide on a longer term solution.

Most people seem to enjoy the crinkle taffeta tablecloths.

My grillfriend would think of the same thing. I've never seen it happen to a girl in any synthetic fiber hammocks, though. Have you/has she? Anyway, here's a vote for cotton (whatever the weave), since you're constructing for indoor-use-only. Nothing better than cotton for against-the-skin comfort and health, and no pesty static to derange a pretty girl's sleek profile.

The preceding recommendation not withstanding, I honestly don't know what cotton "tablecloth" feels like. I'm imagining a light, durable duck/canvas. Probably not at all as gentle to hand as a nylon taffeta?? I'll stay tuned and see what develops. I may try to propose this to my Li'l Cookie Pie...

I can tell you that my nylon Tenth Wonder Hornet which I've been fulltime in for a couple of weeks puts off static like a poorly grounded substation (weave unknown; taffeta?). Haven't had the same problem with my diy ripstop nylon hammock.
I know it's not much to add, but perhaps it's possible that weaves contribute to static as well as material?

I've got my eye on an Amazonas Paradiso (heavy cotton Brazilian), but all my funds for the moment have funnelled into a new Dream Hammock. Oh the perils.

A 14' Brazilian, cotton, is the most comfy gathered end hammock i own.

I'm leaning that way as well but until she is satisfied with her choice we are not wanting to spend a bunch on it. I suspect she will try several options before reaching a similar conclusion to all who love their Brazilians.

Polyester Taffeta 2.6 Ounce per square yard stretches less than other material, it rips suddenly more than other material. So look thru it at a 150 Watt bulb and look for weak spots. Tablecloth Factory uses China Imported Polyester Taffeta, there are also USA manufactured Table Cloth's that may or may not be an improvement.

The colors are nice...named this one "Scarlet Hues...What Dreams May Come..."
