    Another UQ Question: SnugFit

Do the colors on the SnugFit actually make a difference as to which side should face out/away from you, and which side should face in/towards you?

On the website it says that the "Dark outer shell is stealthy & absorbs sun's heat for quick drying when needed. Bright inner shell reflects body heat & provides psychologically uplifting boost when you're spending long hours in the hammock, such as rainy or stormy days." -http://www.speerhammocks.com/Products/SnugFit.htm

I would think that the color wouldn't matter at night?!? But I don't really know... I don't think there is a difference in fabric per each side, and even during the day, if everything is under a tarp, I doubt the sun's going to have much influence...

Anybody got a thought on this?

    - (I ask, because I'm camping all week near Cadillac, MI and I have it set up 'green-side' down/away from me, but I've happened apon pictures on this site, where people have them set up 'blue-side' down/away from the hammocker.) -

The colors, IME, don't matter as far as warmth. But, the SnugFit definitely has an inside and an outside, because it has dual differentially shaped baffles. Hanging it upside down will result in loss of loft.

No need to feel goofy, it's a logical question.

One more thing: In Peter Pan's article "Nesting Tricks From An Old Coot" (http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...7058#post87058) he mentions adding a mylar space/emergency blanket to your set-up for added warmth. Does it matter which way that goes (I.e. foil side down/up)?) And should I try that between me and the hammock or between the hammock and UQ?

Theoretically you want the foil facing in, but in practice I don't know that it matters. The SB is mostly acting as a vapor barrier, and it will boost your warmth some.

Definitely try it between the hammock and the UQ, instead of inside the hammock. There's a great thread on vapor barriers here in the Tips and Tricks forum.

I agree regarding colors on quillts in general. If there's no sunlight, why would color choice matter?

I have a homemade quilt and I swear by it seeming warmer with the black side in, red side out. Could be psychological, I don't know?

well, some say color reflects your body heat as well, but i don't know, most sleeping bags are black inside, and black doesn't reflect any visible light, it absorbs all visible light. and heat isn't visible anyway, it's infared radiation right?. the insulation itself is white, so maybe that trumps the shell color. i don't see it making much difference though, unless it was really reflective like a space blanket perhaps
